Small but significant release - 4th March 2011
As we march along the road to the new moonfruit.com and the blog release we thought we'd squeeze out a few new features that continue to pave the way. So this morning we pushed out a small but significant release. Here are the highlights:
Background HTML tiling
Continuing on the design improvements allowed by the 'no background option' on the 2nd Feb release, we've updated the background HTML image options. It's now possible to set a number of different tiling options: no tiling, tiling, horizontal tiling, vertical tiling. These allow you greater control on how the background image will be displayed so that different effects can be achieved. You can also anchor the image to the top left, top centre and top right. And finally you can choose whether the background image will be fixed in the browser or scroll with your page (effectively whether your site will 'slide' over the top of the image, or the image will move with it as you scroll).

Quick access to Page Master, Background and HTML background
One piece of usability feedback we've had is that getting into the page master can be laborious and often confusing for new users. So we've enabled a 'quick access' feature that means if you double click on an item that is on the page master you are prompted and given the option to jump straight to it. This 'quick access' also allows you to double click on the site background to get to the 'background' panel in the design menu, and double click on the 'wall paper' (HTML background) to get to the HTML background more easily. So generally it allows you to jump around a bit quicker. If you find this upsetting behaviour you can turn it off by going to 'Edit' > 'Preferences' and turn off 'Auto Page Master' (directions only in the new Toolbar).

Page length restriction
One important thing for the blog is to remove the page length restriction so that you can have articles and comments that flow on and on and increase the size of your page itself. So on the road to this we've completed the removal of the page length restriction, which was 3600 pixels long. We have still set a cap (30,000 pixels, over 8x longer), which we may adjust later after feedback. But this allows you to make things much bigger if you like. Remember massive pages with lots of content aren't always the best thing from a usability point of view, or loading speed, so use sparingly!
As always, let us know what you think!

Comments
I am almost speechless. Wow! Now we really have a versitile platform for getting the effect, look and feel of a site exactly how we want it. The extra page length is going to be huge for me. No longer will I have to explain that there is a limit on pages because of a constraint in flash.
You guys are cooking. Keep it going - roll on the blog!
Thank you very much, Moonfruit! These are all nice additions to tide us over while we wait in anticipation for the blog.
Fruity!!!
Nice surprise and welcomed, will be putting DW back in the draw and play around with Moonfruit :))
Great about the page length for the blog, I was wondering how that was going to work.
This is great every release make us closer to e commerce release. I have some question though for e commerce tools. does this e commerce release will be universal. I mean can we use it outside of the UK or USA can we integrate it with our local api or our local e pos system how can this work. or third party companies support all countries etc.
more excited every day that make us closer to e commerce release
Super news! About time we had the page lengths increased. Thank you!
Fantastic Release! Can't wait for the blog!!! nice one Moonfruit
Whats happening with websites, they have gone so slow?
Awesome love it!!!!!
all very well but i cannot access my account any more and the help and contact us do not work
I really rate these improvments, the fact that sites are mobile enabled is huge when convincing customers. Great work Moonfruit.
As said love the changes. Love the major changes today but sadly unable to login and getting "enter valid password" message each time. Reset password and same thing happens. Urgently need to gain access guys:(
Thanks for the feedback guys.
Daz, do you have a special character in your username e.g. an underscore? Can you give me your username so we can check our system.
Thanks - Walt
Hi Walt. Its modaz.
Modaz is pulling his fair out. Almost bold as it is and now tempting to seek professional help for my nerves lol.
unable to login and getting "enter valid password" message each time.
regarding the non working usernames and passwords I had the same problem. Try re-typing them without any special characters - it worked for me. - Simon
Simon - no special characters in mine.
Keepsakek - Go to affiliates at the bottom of this page. This will bring you to the old log in. Log in, click account, log in and set a login widget on your home page for yourself. Remember to go to "people" tab and set the site to not allow new members though.
This is a temp measure I've had to do until the problem is resolved.
Daz
Try entering your usernames without using capitals, I beleive there was a similar issue last week with the new moonfruit.
Hi Guys, the new log didnt like my old password so just changed working ok now. I have five sites running on moonfruit and love am lovin it thanks guys
I saw new prices it is too much there should be one package below 40 dolar and bandwith and storage can be arranged accordingly.
Big news ..No big fun of the price increase, and limited the number of websites for the unlimited package. ;(
one of my website stop working. the domain got re-pointed to the moonfruit one.
Thank you Moonfruit! I love you however just wish iphones could view the flash version as my html site version looks terrible! I know this is a job for iphones to sort out but anything in the pipeline about making the html site look better?
Hello
I did post this on the old forum, but as I am unable to login, I cannot read any advise given, please can you advise about the "include this page in site map" if we tick this where will we find site map on the site?
@Keepsakek www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml
Hi guys, re the price/product changes, this is only for new accounts from 9th March 2011. If you are on an existing account you keep your current site limits, though you do get the extra disk space and bandwidth. So should just be better for existing customers.

Thanks,

I'm not sure why you've removed your site visitor numbers info when you log in. It's a bit of a faf if you don't have a counter and don't want to keep going into your website and menu system to check.
Apart from that, it's a great new look.
Some great mods especially the option to have content scrolling with fixed background - I have been wanting this feature for ages but could not work out how to get it. The easier access to page master and background are also a nice touch.

+1
How big should the background image be so it does not need to be tiled and is fixed so doesn't scroll with the page? As per many of the photo background options you've featured on your examples.
Many thanks for a quick response!
