Moonfruit Blog Beta is here!
We've been working extremely hard behind the scenes here at Moonfruit HQ, and we're pleased to tell you the blog is now available in private beta. We've been private beta testing the new blogging tool for the past 2 weeks and would now like to open it to a few more of our customers to try out.
NB. We do have a number of known bugs that we're working on, all the details can be found on our Beta Blog. Please remember this is very much a work in progress and with your feedback, we can make the necessary improvements to get the full release out as soon as possible. Currently large blog posts will load and layout slowly in your site. We are working on fixing this performance issue along with the other bugs.
To take part in the beta testing, you must register at www.blogbeta.moonfruit.com. Once you have done so, you will then have the option to add a blog. You can add a blog to your site by adding a new page and selecting 'Blog'.
The key features of the new blog include:
- Style your blog like any other Moonfruit page
- Easy to use admin tool for adding and editing posts
- Save drafts, publish now or schedule posts for a later date
- Allow users to comment and easily manage replies through the Comment list
- Change the meta data per post like any other Moonfruit page
- Facebook share functionality on all posts (other sharing options are being worked on currently)
- Tag your posts to make them easier to find

'Dashboard' view

'Add a Post' view
Many of you will be keen to know how it looks on a site, and how it renders on mobile. Within your site you can style the blog elements by selecting them and using the Editor as with any other page content. We're also pleased to say that the HTML view is also in place and renders nicely on an iPhone and other mobile devices.

'Site and HTML' view
The blog authors name will default automatically to your username if you haven't filled out your details in the admin section. To change this, follow these steps:
- Go to edit mode and select 'Admin' in the top navigation bar.
- Under 'Account' in the navigation on the left hand side, click on 'Your Details'
- Select the 'Your Details' tab in the pop up and click on 'view or edit your details'
- Run through the questions and you will be asked for a forename and surname this is what will then be shown as your blog author. It defaults to the username if these aren't filled out.
A few simple requests when using the beta blog. It is in beta, so please read the bugs list first and if you spot anything, then please feel free to let us know. Please do not contact support about beta blog issues as these will need to go through our submission processes on the blog beta site so we can collate and new feedback. Play with it, use it and have fun!

Looks good, will have to give it a try when I am back on British soil.
Well done Moonfruit!
On initial testing seems great. Cannot wait for the full release :-)
cant stop it saying guest posted instead of beck, even after following steps above. small issue though as I am so pleased I can bring my blog over to my website
Hi Becky
What's your site address? I'll have a look at this. Thanks for the heads up.
Leila
Just added a blog and published but cannot see where the blog section has added itself. I was expecting it to appear in the menu but it's nowhere to be seen.
Anyone have any ideas?
Hi, when publishing a post the page title on the browser is always the main websites title.
I thought that each blog post would have it's own unique title displayed in the browser.
Thanks.
I've been so waiting for this...trying it now... so far, so good :-)
Hi Bircho,
Did you add a new page first? If you've created a blog, then add a new page (Blank is best), then while still on the new page, return to menu and click blog again. That should load it up on that new page.
Let us know how you get on.
Walt
Nice one Walt, just figures it out and seems to be working. Thanks
First of all, thanks for finally making this available, it is much appreciated!
From first looks, I think this is going to be pretty much what I was waiting for.
Couple questions:
(1) I am unable to adjust the picture size when trying to post a picture or article blog. Ideally I would want the picture size to mirror the other headline pictures on my site. Each time I try to adjust, it keeps going back to the default - is this something you guys are still working on?
(2) Is there a blog roll feature that allows a visitor to see all of the blogs listed in one place without scrolling down the page (this may cause issues once more than 5 blogs are posted)
(3) Is it possible to create the blog page in more than one place? So for example, renaming the blog title to 'News' then updating my news section with this editor, then also having the same feature on another page/section (such as Events, for example).
(4) Is the font (both headline and body) changeable on the full release?
If you could give me an idea of what to expect on the full release, I'd be grateful :)
Thanks
Hi,
great feature you made !!!
I just wanted to know if something will be done with the header and footer design in the case of multiple posting blog. I noticed that the pages with a header and footer designed in the page master is overlayed by blog post. Is there any solution provided in this cas in order to make footer section linked with the variable high of the blog page with out rebuilding the template and coping the footer for each page in order to be linked with the high of the page.
thanks
When do you think that the e-com wil be launched (1 month / 6 month / 1 year) do you have any idea of the planning)
thank you
First, it is so great to have this early beta test! Some feedback and questions.
1. Will it only ever be one blog per site. My original idea was to have many blogs providing news streams for different parts of my site.
2. The ability to turn off comments is great.
3. I guess the real version will have the ability to change font size?
4. Will I have to add a complete new page for the blog or can it be added to an existing blog
5. I'd like the ability to turn off the Facebook button
6. I'd like to take an RSS feed of my blog item titles and display the list is my home page as an rss list
Ooo exciting! I've set up a draft blog but not made it live yet. When it's in View mode, I can't see a facility for visitors to add a comment...?
Larger text in the comment box would be good, and smaller title text.
A great beta though, thanks!
This could be good for my site , but i would like to know if it will be possible when i make a blog post, can this be shown on Facebook and Twitter, or even a message saying "Tobi has updated his blog...."
And what ways will it be possible to add posts, will it just be through moonfruit on A computer, or can this be done on my smart phone with an app or something.
Will play around with it , and see how it goes to decide what i will do , my blog is with TypePad at the moment , but i would love to use the moonfruit blog.....
hi, we are new to blog beta & would like to add this feature along with NEWS UPDATES
SPORTS & WALL STREET STOCKMARKET REPORTS as well as HIPHOP & MUSIC & GOSSIP
UPDATES ALL DAY 24/7
Great adding, hope this will be in our part soon too..... :-)
Good job !
To answer a few of your questions:
Nick, I'm looking into the adjusting of the picture size for you. It's not something that's been brought to our attention yet. Can you log this on the betablog please?
When you say a list, are you referring to a blog archive?
To both Nick and Steve, you can only have 1 blog per site at the moment. With regards to fonts, this is possible by going into your edit page, selecting the text and changing the styles as you would normally do.
Steve, you can turn off comments when posting by un-ticking the 'allow comments' option.
Regarding RSS feeds, we don't currently have this, however, it's something we're working on. The Facebook share is fixed at the moment, however, please leave a note on feature requests and we can review.
Tobi, if you could do the same with your Twitter button request, that would be great!
Please ensure you're following the correct feedback procedures and leaving comments on the Blog Beta site.
Thanks for everyones feedback :)
Leila
At the moment a image has to come before the body text in the blog. Will there me a way to alternate this i.e. image, text, image, text etc?
Cheers,
SP
Thanks for the response Leila.
Yes, a blog archive that I can display alongside the featured blogs would be ideal. Is that possible?
I have to congratulate Moonfruit on a yet another fine addition the blog is brill :--)
WOW! WOW! AND WOW! What a fantastic new feature! I'm just in awe of Moonfruit and am loving the new blog! Had a great time playing with it and cant wait to use it for real!
What I really love is the freedom it gives you! You can literally customize EVERYTHING! It's brilliant, well done team! Litle problem I'm having though, where can I find the links for each post on my blog?! HELPPP Thanks and good luck, your future is looking bright!!
@Sp that is already possible! When adding a new post on your 'Dashboard' click on 'Article', then add an image by clicking on the small pic icon! So you can add text first, followed by an image, then text, image, and text again, or even vice versa!
Hope that was a help! :)
Hey,
I'd like to be able to list my blogs by their header, rather than the entire blog posting to the 'Blog' page. Is there some way of merging the blog facility with the existing 'Blog/News' page to separate them by header
Let me know your thoughts when you get a chance
Thanks, Maddy
Hi, have tried my blog page, but every time I type something and then try to click out it reverts to the welcome bit. Do I need to upgrade to get full benefit? Thanks for any tips! It probably is just ME!!!
p.s I certainly have not got the dashboard you are showing above coming up.
Hi Maddy, the new Blog page and the old Blog/News page are two separate entries. The former is using the new Blog tool while the latter uses the much older (outdated) version. If that's what you meant.
Hi Paintergirl, did you follow the instructions regards 'Joining' up on www.blogbeta.moonfruit.com? If so then, you simply need to add a Blog page (through Pages) then add the Blog from your Toolbar.
Walt
so is the video and audio part going to be available when it release officially?
Hi,
Links websites in the blog text are still coloured black rather than the standard blue and underlined.
SP
Wemajor, not in the first release but it will make it as part of a later release.
Sp, if you can forward your comments to the Dev team via the blog beta site that would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Walt
Hi,
Can't work out how to change the font sizes etc in the blog?
Also should it have all the stuff on the right that this blog has? (search, tags, categories etc)
Cheers
B
Another useful tool to keep clients informed and interested - if it's as good as some of the mainstream blogging sites I might even replace my current blogging site !
I would be interested to know if it will be possible to import all the posts from an existing blog (Blogger) to the monnfruit site based blog ? If I was looking to change from the existing blog to the Moonfruit blog, this would be absolutely neccessary in order to maintain continuity.
I like the new blog but have two queries. Can you not allow an edit of the blogger. It always puts up my user name but I rather it was just my name or no name at all. My blog is just for me so everytone that views my blog knows who is writing and I have sett it up so no access allowed to anyone else.
And can you transfer all old blogs from the existing blog/news page to this new blog setup?
Thanks
I'm just trying out the blog. Once published all the text is pale grey - do I have to change each block of text to a readable colour or is there a way to set the style of the blog. Thanks
Guys, I've tried everything possible with the new blog and nothing I do will allow me to modify the pictures and then have them save in the new size format. It keeps re-adjusting back to the default setting you have, which isn't in line with the rest of my site and doesn't even match the width of the text.
I've followed everything you've said diligently - but this just isn't working. Are you guys going to fix this problem or are we resigned to having a blog that doesn't deliver on the great promise?
Not salty, just frustrated and in need of a successful resolution/response.
Nick
Oh, and the other thing is, everytime I edit in the blog, inevitably it crashes my browser, whether using Firefox or Safari. Consistently.
Is this a bug?
Can you point me in the direction of getting a blog like the one you have used on this site as a html widget insert?
I moved one of my other websites over to another sitebuilder program in January solely because the blogging capabilities with moonfruit were minimal at best. If this new feature is up to scratch I'll be back in a heartbeat.
Hi, I may be being silly but none of my blog posts are showing anywhere? Any ideas where i am going wrong?
Hi Carlie,
If you can reply to Sarah's response to you Facebook (Beta Group) then we can keep your feedback in one place regards the Blog and provide a suitable response.
Thanks
Walt
I've added a blog page to a web site I've done for one of my clients, but either I've not done it correctly or the blog facility isn't able to do what I want it to do.
I can write a post and my client can add comments, as can anyone else. I want to make it so that my client can write posts and no-one else can comment.
Can it do this, if so, how?
Hi Laura, the only way to do this at present is to set a client up as a member and give them Admin rights. You then assign Admin rights to the Blog page only.
This will allow them to reply, but also post blogs and edit the blog as a feature - so you would want to trust them.
In-Blog permissions will be added at some point down the line but at present we're focussing on delivering the basics.
Walt
how come i can not add audio or video to blog?
Hi, the Beta version doesn't have this option yet. Once it goes to general release our developers will look to add those features in. When? At present can't say.
We'll keep you posted.
Walt
Hi, I've just signed our page up for this but it's not showing up - not getting an option to add blog, just the same old blog/news page. What have I done wrong?
Hi samster78,
It looks like you have managed to get the blog running, judging by your post on the other thread. If this isn't the case, please let me know.
HTH,
Gary
The varying font size on the blog posts - your answer to steve to go into the edit page and change font size as normal doesn't make sense. the editor does not provide the option as it does with text boxes. help! it's the only problem i have with the whole website - the text is tiny and i want to make the font size larger.
I thought I was going mad trying to change the font size until I read Josie's post and realised it wasn't just me! Can you help, please? The font size is tiny on the Blog page and I can't find a way to change this. Thanks.
Apologies for the confusion - the blog currently uses the default Title and Body text settings, which you can change via the Design menu.
HTH,
Gary
Hello Moonfruit central,
I'm struggling to find how to add a tags menu, and an archive menu to the blog so that it's easy to navigate around all the different sections I plan to add. All other blogs have this and without it, the blog is impossible to navigate. Am I missing something here, or is this under development at the moment? Also I'm changing the size of the title font and none of the other posts alter unless I do each one by hand. Is this a bug that needs to be fixed, or again am I missing something?
Thanks in advance, we'll get there together
Kevin
Nickelsafe
Hi Kevturbs,
Archiving is something we're looking at and there are a few features still missing at present. It's still in Beta, so we've got a bit more work to do, as we've mentioned above, and we will be doing more updates on the blog over the coming months once it is out on general release.
Thanks
Walt
When am I gonna be able to change the font size and line spacing on my blog, its an eyesore to try to read!!!
Hi Mike,
The Blog currently uses the default font settings for your site - you can edit these via the Design menu.
HTH,
Gary
hi,
the new blog feature looks great. i already am using the old blog however and am not sure how to integrate it with the new blog. is there a way to transfer all content to the new blog?
thanks
madmums
I added the blog to my website (FYRLYT News) but have oviously overlooked something. On my page length I have 3 posts but cant see any listed version by title? If I add another post it runs past my page length?
I am wondering have I inadvertantly deleted a list button perhaps or viewing criteria?
Any help much appreciated!
Regards,
Peter Lloyd Culley.
Can anyone tell me how to increase the size of the miniscule comments button on my blog. My friends have said it is easily missed and to be honest it can barely be seen.
Is there any way of making it bigger?
I like the clean display of the blogs on mobile - great!
Hi all,
Maadmums: I'm afraid it isn't possible to transfer content from the Blog/News widget to the new Blog - the Blog/News widget is extremely old now, and wasn't designed with this sort of feature in mind.
Peter: Can you let us know which site you are seeing this on?
Kitty: I'm afraid it cannot be changed at the moment, but I will pass this suggestion on.
HTH,
Gary
hi , is it possible to share each post ? i will add photos every few days and i would like to share each photo on my Facebook not the hole site just that one photo , e.g on Facebook it would say i just added a new post to my site .. thank you
Hi,
In a word, yes. Each post has buttons for sharing to Facebook and Twitter.
HTH,
Gary
