Moonfruit Blog Beta is now Live!
Calling all Moonfruiters! Blogging has been used as a global platform for announcements for some time now. It has provided a stage for the public to sadly learn that Lance Armstrong was to race his last Tour de France, or that Christiano Ronaldo had suddenly become a father. Blogging has become a natural tool for announcements, news and sharing content. We are really happy to announce (conveniently through a blog) that we here at Moonfruit are releasing the Moonfruit Blog Beta! We would love you to take a look and try it out.
The blog platform is a simple to use set of tools enabling you to update your blog page quickly and simply. You have a range of different ways in which you can do this in the editor. Firstly click on the blog beta button to add your blog content. Then create your first post.
You can have three different types of post: a text post, which is a post that only contains text; an article post, which enables images and text as well as being able to split an article across multiple pages; and finally an image post, which is (unsurprisingly!) a post that display images. If you are in a hurry and just want to write a quick text post then on the blog dashboard you can use the quick post feature. This will take the first line of your post as the title and send it straight out. If this is your first post then when you click to publish you'll be prompted to add your blog page to your site.

As with all good blog platforms you can add tags to your posts and all posts are published to an RSS feed. On top of all this you can add metadata to every post enabling you to control your SEO (search engine optimisation) on a post by post basis. You will also find some global settings in the blog settings area. In this section you can set global site wide tags and the image alignment as well as decide how many posts you would like to be able to see on the blog page.
The thing that makes the Moonfruit blog different from other blog platforms is the ability to be creative with your blog site design. Just like with other pages a blog page can be edited through simple click, drag and edit. Quite simply what you see is what you get. If you have any questions on how to use the blog or find any "unusual features" then just ask.
Here are are a few Moonfruit sites that are already using our blog functionality. Do share your blog sites with us, it's always interesting to see what is of interest to you!

We look forward to hearing about your experience with the blog.
And one bonus blog link The Moonfruit Intern blog.

Can't wait to try this out! ;)
Put our blog up today with the new beta release and found it very intuitive so for most it should be a breeze!
To the Moonfruit team... Thankyou. Great job!
Found using the article tool suited me best with the ability to add the 'read more' function. Only question I had was:
Is there a way to change the text colour for the type tha says 'Read More'? or is it a fixed default with the tags?
Regards,
Peter LLoyd Culley
All looks great, I have one suggestion I would rather customize newer and older button as text and shape. For example I want to put next and back rather than lder and newer etc. Please update us if you guys can do it
is there a guide for this blog that we can send to clients?
:)
i guess if the 'beginners guide' was updated for blog that would do?
Hi Cohen,
Not just yet, but it is in the works as we speak, and it should be available in PDF format.
HTH,
Gary
Do you think you will ever allow customizing of the newer and older buttons? This is the only thing I really dislike about the blog. Other than that, its a great feature!
Hi Kaya and Nae,
Apologies for the delayed reply. It is actually possible to change the Newer and Older buttons, but it isn't as simple as you may have wished, I'm afraid.
You need to 'drill down' on the buttons by double-clicking through the various layers of the blog widget, but you will then be able to select the buttons individually - they are standard link buttons, so you can change the style and text.
HTH,
Gary
Is it possible to set a different wallpaper for the blog page?
Hi Gary, I have tried the drilling.(lol) I get all the way down until the editor box gives me the object name as "previous button". I change the color of the button and size I save it and once the page refreshes the button reverts back to the original color and size. Maybe I'm doing something wrong :(
Hi Chris,
I'm afraid not - it is a normal page, so follows the normal page conventions. However, it is possible to add an appropriately-sized image to the back of the page.
Nae: Let me look into this and get back to you - this may be a bug.
HTH,
Gary
Okay Gary... thanks!!!!
Gary do you know if this is bug or not and when to expect this to be resolved? Thanks!
I haven't a site at the moment. Can I create a free blog with your domaine?
Thanx
A
Hi Nae,
This is indeed being looked into - I don't have a timescale for you at the moment, but it should be sooner rather than later.
pirula: Yes, you can create a blog using our Free account.
HTH,
Gary
Hello,
I was wondering if there is an archive and tag list for the blog. I've been looking all over and was wondering if I missed something.
Thanks in advance,
Romi Vandeginste
Hi Romi,
This isn't available just yet, but it is being worked on.
HTH,
Gary
Is it possible to set up a unique email address to receive notification of blog entries. We have set up to receive emails but unless you overwrite the address it appears to go to main site email address.
Help appreciated
Hi David,
I'm afraid that email notifications for the Blog can only go to the site email address at the moment - apologies. I'll pass this point on to the Development team, as it may well be possible to change this.
HTH,
Gary
I would like a Guide on how to use the blog facility to increase my website's Google rankings. Info on how often to write, using keywords, titles and suchlike would be most welcome.
Hi Ros,
Although we don't have a Blog-specific version, you should find that our SEO guide (which you can download from the Help menu in the editor) will answer most of your ranking-related questions.
HTH,
Gary
